Today, as we went around looking at potential new facilities and touring them, I chose to be focused on the task at hand. The facilities were empty buildings, no decorations, no accoutrements, no flash, etc. The emptiness was, well, could have been boring. However, in those empty places, I looked to see what my mind's eye could see. I pictured all of us in there worshipping together. I pictured everyone huddled in the lobby, hugging, laughing, off in the corner sharing private conversations, etc. The silence and emptiness were alive with potential. My heart was beating. My eyes were wide. I had expectancy, but it was because I CHOSE to have that expectancy. I chose to focus on the "what-might-be's" of hope and excitement rather than the "what-isn't's" of the moment.
I didn't wander off from the group. I didn't draw a blank in the moment and focus on what was for supper tonight. I focused; I chose to focus on what we were doing. It's the same with God's Presence. When we are attending to Him, we must choose to block out distractions, we can choose to have the intention that we are going to pursue God with all our hearts. When we make that choice, He empowers us to follow through on it. The chaos of our souls can be squelched by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our God is the God of potential. HE's the God of what is, what was, and what is going to be. He knows our ends from our beginnings, and He has a plan, a hope, and a future for us. He is interested in getting us from here to there. We have a choice. We can fight Him and struggle against Him, or we can buy into His plans and purposes. We can be angry at Him and His people, or we can surrender to Him and simply love His people. God wants to see you pregnant with expectancy. He wants to reproduce in you His plans and His power. He wants to take you to a higher place in Him. His romance is the romance of the ages. His love is the love of the ages. When He floods our souls with His love, He takes us beyond the simple, beyond the mundane. He's calling us to be an army of transformationists. He's calling us to be revolutionists who will lead a nation of people, a family of people, to a promised land of His Presence and His Power. The Israelites had a promised land that was a physical place. We have a promised land that is a spiritual state of existence; where we see meaning in this life, a place where our purpose makes sense, a place where His Presence becomes the fulfillment of all we need and everything that we should ever want and desire.
