Speaking to Yourself - Building Supernatural Strength on the Inside
Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and
they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
Proverbs 3:3 - Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about
thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.
Psalm 45:1 - my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
Ephesians 5:18b-19 - be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to
yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making
melody in your heart to the Lord
Remaining upbeat is a very, very difficult task. The news doesn't
give us much reason to take heart
in life; relationships let us down, and sometimes, even God seems to be
hidden and out of reach. What can we do in order to keep an upbeat,
joy-filled heart? WE CAN SPEAK TO OURSELVES!!!
Encouraging your own heart by speaking directly to yourself is a very
Biblical practice. A few examples:
Psalm 16:7 I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my
heart instructs me.
Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his
benefits:
Psalm 103:22 Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his
dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.
Psalm 42:5 Why am I discouraged? Why so sad? I will put my hope in
God! I will praise him again – my Savior and My God.
In these passages, we see (primarily in Psalms), that it is Biblical
to speak encouragement to yourself.
Over and over again the scriptures declare that we can encourage ourselves
if we only write on the table of our hearts with the pen of our words. We
can author our own encouragement if we just speak encouragement into our
own lives.
Sometimes discouragement rises up in our minds, so we must speak to
our own hearts and tell them to
burn again. Sometimes, when I'm feeling a little discouraged, I have to
say, Randy, you will be encouraged, you will not look at the circumstances,
but you will (without hesitation) bless the Lord and be encouraged In Jesus
Name the Word also declares that singing and making melodies in our hearts TO
THE LORD will also encourage us (Eph. 5:18-19). If we sang more and
worshiped more, we would have to deal with negative emotions less often. sadness
and praise can't dwell in the same place at the same time for very long
Remember, DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN THE POWER OF YOUR TONGUE - Speak
life!!!
