HOLINESS

God is Holy

The Scriptures are clear, God is Holy (Psalm 99:5, Isaiah 54:5, Psalm 89:19, Isaiah 12:6).  Holy simply means “set apart, other, and in a sense ‘perfect.’”  God is the very definition of holy, He is other, perfect, right…

We were by nature, sinful

Since the fall of Adam and Eve, humanity has had a major issue that has separated us from our holy God, sin.  It is engrained into who we are.  When we were born into this world, sin became the inescapable draw.

Now, you may have never smoked marijuana, took crack, had illicit sex, etc.; interestingly enough, neither did Adam and Eve, they simply ate a piece of fruit.  The sin wasn’t so much about “How bad they were or how ‘bad’ you are.”  Sin is about rebellion.  If you stop at a red light, and God whispers to your heart, “Turn left here,” and you turn right, you have sinned.  Simple definition of sin – rebellion against the will of God.

God requires us to be holy

Leviticus 11:44, 45, 19:2, 20:7, 20:26, and 1 Peter 1:16.  So, God is Holy + We were sinful by our very inborn nature = SEPARATION FROM GOD!!!  This is a simple equation.

How can we be holy,

when we are sinful by nature?

First, we are redeemed from sin (Galatians 3:13 / 1 Peter 1:18), and we are forgiven of our sins, when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9).  When we ask Jesus Christ to come into our lives and be our Savior and Lord, He immediately forgives us and MAKES US AS THOUGH WE NEVER, EVER SINNED IN THE EYES OF GOD IN THE SPIRIT-REALM (2 Cor. 5:17).

Next, for all believers, Jesus Christ gives us the ability to resist sin:

He gives us His HOLY Spirit.  “I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes” (Ezekiel 36:27).  When you receive Jesus, you become born of the Spirit, and that means your very nature changes; you become a new creation.

How do we become Holy?  How can we live a life set apart for God?

1.      Make a decision to surrender to the Holy Spirit.

Some people are waiting for a dynamic lightening bolt from heaven to strike and destroy their habits and temptations.  You will always still be tempted by the Devil to fall back into sin.

Everything in the Kingdom is about decision making.  Make a decision to yield to the Holy Spirit.  When you make the decision, make a declaration.  Confess with your mouth that you will be yielded to the Holy  Spirit.

2.      Study the Word

When Jesus was tempted by the Devil to sin, He used the Word of God.  He spoke the Word.  The Bible says of itself that it is the Sword of the Spirit.  Use it and wield it against every onslaught of the enemy.

3.      Keep a repentant heart

Remember, you will sin.  As long as we are in the world, the world will affect us.  If we sin, we have an advocate with the Father (I John 2:1).  Just remember, if you sin, repent, don’t let condemnation cause you to freak out and run from God, if you sin, RUN TO GOD!!!

Let’s pray (Pray this out loud):

Father, I want to be holy, even as you are holy.  Fashion me into the image of your dear Son, Jesus Christ and make me holy (Romans 8:29).  Forgive me of my sins, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.  In Jesus Name.  Amen….

PASTORS CORNER

“Helping feed

the family of God”

From Pastor Angela Brown

Called

Have you ever felt like you were being pulled or pushed in a direction and not quite sure why the yearning was burning within you? We all can probably reflect on a time when we did something and in the midst of it were not sure what was going on, but when it was over we could see that we were doing a work beyond our thoughts. God does not force anything upon us, but he does deposit things into our hearts, the decision to do His will is ours. Listen to your spirit self and allow God to do his work through you. I can guarantee you that He knows what he is doing, especially when we do not.

Rom 8:28-30  And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,[j] who[k] have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

From Pastor Joan Castle

Confession of Faith

Jesus gave me authority to use His name and that which I bind on earth is bound in heaven, and that which I loose on earth is loosed in heaven. Therefore, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I bind the principalities, the powers, the rulers of darkness of this world;  I bind and cast down spiritual wickedness in high places and render them harmless against me and the entire household of faith at New Covenant Church of Atlanta in Jesus’ Name.

I am complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power; for I am His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God has before ordained that I should walk therein.

I let the peace of God rule in my heart and I refuse to worry about anything.

I will not let the Word of God depart from before my eyes for it is life to me, for I have found it and it is health and healing to all my flesh.

God is on my side. God is in me now, who can be against me?
